In N Out and Trauma Writing Group
This offering are group poems written by the In N Out and Trauma Writing Group in Spring 2026
This semester we wrote poems in the theme of the body—each week we wrote about a different body part.
These are the uniquely inspired poems for this Spring

Poem 2 – The Heart
The following poem explores what the heart can endure, what it gives and what it feels. Our hearts are so tender that they can love someone even if that love is not returned, or if that love is stomped on and rejected. But what does that do to the heart? Make it stronger? Make it break? Our feelings from the heart are so profound sometimes it seems like we will split in a million pieces, yet we don’t. The heart keeps on pumping its lifegiving blood. The heart survives long after that harm it has received has done its ghastly deeds. We keep our hearts strong and our love alive.
We all give pieces of our hearts
To those that may be underserving of our love.
Not everyone deserves your warmth and time.
You may have to ditch people to continue to climb.
But don’t ditch the feelings that love leaves behind.
