This offering are group poems written by the In N Out and Trauma Writing Group in Spring 2026
This semester we wrote poems in the theme of the body—each week we wrote about a different body part.
These are the uniquely inspired poems for this Spring

Poem 3 – The Head
The following poems is about the head. Our head is very important, a skull surrounding our brain. The brain has so many functions that control the entire body. Thank goodness we have a skull to protect it. But what protects our thoughts from overtaking us and making us sad, mad, defeated, forlorn, glum and in so many ways out of sorts? The same brain helps us gain stability and figure out the problems in life, if we know how to tap into it. Our head is where dreams come from, where ideas are born and where our resilience lies, in ways that we cannot even imagine. We should all take excellent care of our head.
It was always in my head and I just couldn’t let go
To the thoughts that consumed by days—the thoughts of heartbreak
The never-ending nights keep me longing to be freed—to be woken up
From my prison of a dream.
To see what the future will bring to me.
While I run through life maintaining to be free.
I may stumble, I may trip, but I’m still me.
