In N Out and Trauma Writing Group
This offering are group poems written by the In N Out and Trauma Writing Group in Spring 2026
This semester we wrote poems in the theme of the body—each week we wrote about a different body part.
These are the uniquely inspired poems for this Spring

Poem 5 – The Eyes
The following poem is about the eyes. We see with our eyes, but sometimes we just see what we want to see. Because sometimes our eyes don’t see what is right in front of us. Because sometimes we just see what we want to see, even though it might be painful. We see our loved ones as beautiful and our opponents as evil, but we are not always correct. Yet, it is ours, what we see, and what we can learn from what we see.
How can you turn your eyes away from the things that you have seen?
Your mind will forever cling to the view even if you don’t shut your eyes.
When you want to remember your views, recall the memories lost in your eyes.
And if that doesn’t help—just try to see me as I really am.
