In N Out and Trauma Writing Group

This offering are group poems written by the In N Out and Trauma Writing Group in Spring 2026

This semester we wrote poems in the theme of the body—each week we wrote about a different body part.

These are the uniquely inspired poems for this Spring

Poem 7 – The Face

The following poem is about the face. People recognize our face and we see others with a similar recognition. Sometimes it is a reminder of something great, sometimes it is bittersweet. Yet the face can change, it can go from dark to light, happy to sad, questioning to authority, in a moment. We see ourselves in each other. And sometimes we see a face we will never forget even if it takes a lifetime.

Her eyes shift from left to right,

Scanning the room, searching for a face she has nearly forgotten.

And then she realizes what he had been trying to avoid,

The slip of the mirror, the turn of the face,

Yes, it’s me,
